“I strive for two things in design: simplicity and clarity. Great design is born of those two things.”
– Lindon Leader
“There is nothing a busy man is less busied with than living; there is nothing harder to learn.”
“A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.”

Recently I went to a free (yes free) scotch tasting event at a local wine and liquor store, The Wine House. This was my first tasting event there. They hold wine tasting events every week, and a few scotch tastings each year.
I was delighted at how well-planned and executed the event was. The setting was comfortable and quaint nestled into the back of the store. Dimmed lights in the store, with mood lighting in the back where the event took place. There was a nice display of the scotch we were to sample during the evening, set up by representatives from The Balvenie Distillery, which is located in Dufftown on Speyside, in Scotland.
“The best six doctors anywhere, and no one can deny it, are sunshine, water, rest, and air, exercise and diet. These six will gladly you attend, if only you are willing. Your mind they’ll ease. Your will they’ll mend. And charge you not a shilling.”
– Wayne Fields in What the River Knows
About a year ago I was going through the process of starting my own web design and online marketing business. One of the more fun aspects of this was generating brand concepts, including possible names and logos. If I haven’t mentioned it, I love designing logos.
This concept, for Metafox Media, was one of my favorites. I had many iterations of this one – including one using orange as the primary color for obvious reasons. Ultimately, I went in a different direction (see Launch Media Design) in part because of the fox logo used for the website, FiveThirtyEight.
