I’m Jay Clewis and I’m a designer, consultant, and strategist with two decades of experience in web design, mobile product design and development, marketing, publishing, content creation, branding, news media, and higher education.
Collaborating with entrepreneurs and business leaders to define and develop their product road maps and marketing strategies is what I love to do. Background and Credentials
I currently hold dual teaching appointments at the USC Iovine and Young Academy for Arts, Technology, and the Business of Innovation at the University of Southern California, as well as the prestigious Newhouse School at Syracuse University – one of the nation’s leading communications and journalism schools.
In early 2016, I launched a boutique design agency named Launch Media Design to help small businesses and entrepreneurs establish mobile-friendly, professional websites, and inbound marketing strategies. Since then, I have folded LMD into jayclewis.com to expand the offering to include consulting, strategic planning, and corporate training.
Previously, I led key product development initiatives that focused on native mobile applications, the mobile web, and responsively-designed features for news, sports, and entertainment channels for Advance Local. Advance Local is one of the largest media groups in the U.S. and operates the leading news and information companies in more than 25 cities, reaching 50-plus million people monthly with quality, real-time journalism and community engagement.
Before joining Advance, I led strategic content teams at Syracuse.com and The Post-Standard during the height of the news industry’s paradigm shift to digital, where I helped establish the company’s content, video, mobile, social, and SEO strategies. Syracuse.com is the leading news and information company in Central New York, and is an Advance Local brand.
While at Syracuse.com, I pioneered the company’s first mobile website, which was quickly implemented for all of Advance Local’s 13 news websites across the country. It was a simple solution to an obvious problem that cost almost nothing to create. The timing was right, and we were able to fill an emerging need for our audience. My years at Syracuse.com were a transformational time in my career that offered an opportunity to learn, produce, and lead for an award-winning news company that embodied journalism excellence, but also a culture that embraced experimentation and innovation.
